Intangible Thorny Tattoo (written with Natalie)

By ColorMeToxic

I lay awake some nights thinking of you,
for you remain embedded beyond skin
...a tattoo on my soul.

and I try to forget that you are just buried there,
like a fossil in sand...
a part of me that I can't erase;

like trying to hide from your shadow.

and the jagged edges of my memories of you
cut so deep
haunting, and taunting
a thorn on the stem of a wilted rose that will not die.

In the form of insomnia
and sadness

you invade my peace,
corrupt my need to retire
from ghosted thoughts
and everlasting aches.

and you're still living your life
as though
nothing
ever
happened...

as though our love were just whispers on the wind.

It's as if that last line was said in unison, just the way I read it, perhaps? Tattoos, scars, little vestiges of love and love lost, you said it took a year for this to happen, I say it was simply dormant and waiting to burst. Fine piece, both of you. Scholar
