Memory Lane

By Sean Mc Shane

Memory Lane is a dark road
that leads to some very haunted places

where familiar voices still whisper
in a choir of ghostly faces

where things once treasured
lay in coffin shaped cases

where love has lost to hate
leaving many empty spaces

where it is forever night
and light leaves no traces

where fragments of my soul
still search for God's good graces

where regret is a wicked entity
that the rest of me embraces

Memory Lane is a dark road
to my own nightmare oasis . . .

Past can haunt us forever, we have to make peace with it, we can't run from it nor disconnect from it. In time we have to accept it and embrace it as part of us, otherwise it's always there like skeletons in the closet. My opinion over this. Good piece you made, very suggesting

...the rest of the poem is good, but that final line, 'oasis' breaking slightly w/the primary rhyme was an excellent maneuver...
