It was worth it

By ColorMeToxic

It was Christmas night,
and money was tight.
So he slaved and  he labored,
with tears in his eyes.
And it was worth it.

He had 25 dollars
to spend on Christmas.
That's 5 dollars per present
if he doesn't get one.
He didn't get one.

At the end of his shift,
there was a party with food.
So he filled up a plate,
and tried to lighten his mood.
For his family.

With sadness in his smile,
he handed out the gifts.
Wishing they were better...
Knowing he did his best.
For his children.

He had one plate of food,
to split between the kids.
He and his wife,
would go hungry again...

And it was worth it...in the end.

This is based on stories I grew up hearing about Christmas when my mother and her siblings were little. I think we take way too much shit for granted, and forget to be thankful for the small stuff...

The most beautiful sacrifices are the ones where you can look back and say, "It was worth it". Very sweet write.
