Addiction

By Alchemist

I'm on my way to the bottom
Would you like a free ride

Well of course you would
Hop on my coat-tails and glide

I will sink in you in awhile
Become what grows on the inside

A growth with out sunshine is vile
I'm that which prospers when I hide

A sandwich of feast and famine
I dine at a table with parasites at all sides

My pet is a succubus incaged in a plague rat
I am all hope when it is lost on the outside

A life is just seconds upon seconds of decay
And I am the Earth's most helpful guide

I am the pariah that swims through hell
But still with out shackles you abide

Willingly flowing like an exorcised spirit
To my every breath until you collide

With grief and ego, symptoms are destruction
The rocky floor is the perfect spot to get fried

Now and again don't you want that devil you know
The one that hurts so good and is worldwide

Come on release that pride and back-slide
The tide of happiness can't be denied

I can see it in your eyes you want to confide
In me at all times and let me control your strides

Deep yet completely down to the point.. Lovely write.

  • A former member wrote: It's funny to think that you can make something so powerless to me now, seem so damningly unavoidable and absolute. The last two lines I'm sure, would be/are quite seductive to any former addict of any kind. I'd say it's not unlike a cheap whore that I'd give a flirtatious smirk before tossing aside. All in all... I like your writing, though I do intend to still kept it clean. :)

Great write! I have known more people than I would like who have taken that ride downward... This made me think of Heroin in particular, and how it starts out as a crutch that turns into an anchor. I really enjoyed this, and look forward to reading some of your other works!
