Remember

By Alchemist

Remember life is long
Remember life is yours until it's gone
Because then life is remembered as all too short

Remember that some of the principles that are good for others to live by
are not always good for you
Remember some of the smartest sounding quotes are actually just BS

Remember to dance in the rain but remember to wear your shoes if it gets too cold
Remember to not watch tv all day when it's sunny outside

Remember to own a pet but love it like it was your best friend

Remember to travel but if you can't, remember to read a book

Remember to always remember the good times but always remember to let go of the bad
Remember to let me know if you ever figure out how to forget your failures
Remember to forgive your enemies but always remember to never be fooled again
But remember you will be fooled again

Remember the good advice that you didn't use
Remember the good advice that served no use
Remember that advice is just someone else's mistakes
and some times you have to make your own so you can give bad advice later

Remember what's on your list of to-do’s

Remember to clean up your mess

Remember that the bad times have always been so in the future when there's bad
You don't just remember some fake world of the past where you only remember the good
But again just remember there was bad but not all the bad has to be remembered
So remember the good like it was yesterday

Remember the trees in your small hometown
Because when you move to the big city to get that good job
there may not be any trees around

Remember what you loved as a child and remember to still love those things as an adult
Or else adulthood could leave you jaded, callous and bruised
Remember to be carefree like your children so you never grow old too soon
But when you do grow old if you can remember love
It will all be well lived
A life worth remembering

  • A former member wrote: your poetry is very good its very inspiring and makes you think alittle

  • A former member wrote: P.S...the secret to forgetting your failures is to forgive yourself like you would your enemies. You're your own best friend, however daft that sounds. You wouldn't have a best friend that couldn't forgive you. Forgive yourself.

just gonna say, the second to last stanza hit really hard, I love so many trees in my hometown, we don't have the same kind of trees up here in the big city. Thank you for this piece, a great gift - XXOO Scholar

so many observations we will come across in our lifetime. which all are memories. some are cherished some are not. but im definitely with you on the non-cherished moments. you have to make the mistake to learn from it. we start shaping our lives starting in infancy. and we grow by example. trial and error. I really liked this poem alchemist. its got me remembering those little sometimes pointless memories that profoundly shaped me. awesome!
