Moonlight Over Raleigh

By Alchemist

City lights shine in a dark south
A new millennium’s metropolitan
Burning the midnight oil
“Well I do declare”
Modern technology
Has changed the southern frontier
Manifest destiny
Now has a country twang
And even the tall tall buildings
Seem to have an open door hospitality
The Old North State what a fitting name
How ironic I would feel so at home uptown
With these giant shadows beaming down
When I live “over yonder”
Where you can see all 3000 stars
Over the farm fields and textile mills
In a small town with a big river
Lined with tobacco barns and rusted plows
It’s where they get the rustic style
So it’s charming when I inhale
This urban nocturnal air
And hear the party of downtown sounds
That I would reminisce
Of memories made when I was a child
