My Broken China Doll

By SilentStalker

My broken china doll
Perfect in her own misery
Beautiful in her disrepair
And amazing in her simplicity.

She spends all her time
Chipping away the ugly pieces
Discarding that which she does not want
Dropping it upon the floor
And keeping only that which is acceptable
Until that too, becomes ugly.

What she didn't see
Is that I kept all the pieces.
The pieces that were still just as beautiful as she
But not in her eyes, not the eyes that mattered.

I put them in a little box
And swore that one day
I'd show her just how beautiful they really were
How each little piece she perceived defective
Made her all the more beautiful

And I dreamed I put my broken heart,
My broken soul, All my flaws and scars
Into my broken china doll
I opened up the box
and showed her the pieces
Setting them into place
Securing each one with a smile
Until the box was empty
And as I gazed upon her
Her eyes told me
She finally knew she was beautiful.

For the first time
She was finally happy
She was finally smiling
A smile that reached into me.
And fixed my broken heart
My broken soul, all my flaws and scars
And I was complete.

But when I awoke
There was only the sound of chipping
Pieces, ugly pieces
Falling to the floor
Only what was still acceptable
Was all that remained on her
Hardly anything left
And inside the empty box
Were the words "I'm sorry"
And I cried.

My beautiful broken china doll
Who I love in all your imperfection
But every time a piece of my heart gets chipped away
I remember what I'm truly fighting for.

One day I'll find the pieces
I swear I'll find them again
And I'll show you just how beautiful you are.

I have to say I am impressed by this. I have someone I feel exactly this way about. Whom chips away at herself..tossing aside those pieces. She's always been divine to me. And I have tried to stitch her back together, Every Single Time that she breaks. If I had the ability, and money to put this on the front page again... I would. Because you...are beyond talented.

When I read something like this I can't help but, ask questions about the characters involved, the motivation behind the beauty. The questions and sincere childlike love and compassionate devotion leaves me at a loss. This is among the most heartfelt and honest things I've read. With the utmost thanks, I Deeply appreciate you sharing this.
