Remembering My Desert Rose

By Malcholm Dark

I remember...
The desert at spring time
Mighty saguaros topped with white blossoms
The paloverdes turn a stark yellow
Cat claw, creosote and prince's plume
Barrels, hedge hogs and queen of the night
Brilliant yellows, purples and white
And of course the prickly pear, my desert rose
Her yellow and red flowers smiling up at me.

I remember...
The night all the flowers closed
They gave praise to the sky above
A bright white skull, the full moon
Surrounded by an endless sea of stars
So peaceful, so serene, so perfect
A night of such vivid clarity
Forever branded into my memory
Of which time itself shall never fade.

I remember...
My desert rose--my lovely, delicate flower
My one true love, there with me all alone
Jade-green eyes, pure as the light
Long straight hair, yellow as the sun
Soft tan skin with a sweet scent of flowers
Sparklets of tears that run down her face
A god sent, a gift from angels above
There to share in the splendor of my madness.

I remember...
Her lying there helpless, bound by rope
Screaming--crying out--pleading for mercy
I stood over her, in love, with axe in hand
Then the blood stained sand
The hole I had dug
The pieces I cut her up into
And the prayer I whispered softly
As I covered her up for eternity.

I remember...
The desert at spring time
A prickly pear tombstone
And my desert rose.

Wow. The visuals were excellent. I could "see" everything you were telling me. The end was pretty gruesome. You understand the mind of an insane killer. It made me shiver.

Thanks... I like to give a good tale... I find, sometimes, that normal poetry can be a bit boring... I like to stay unnormal if possible...

Thanks... I wasn't thinking of SW when I was writing but now I can see J Depp standing over the desert rose.

Thanks... I used to write all my poems like that, trying to steer the reader one way then slam them the other way... Now just every so often...

That was gruesome, everything was peaceful and serene and then turned into an axe murder lol. I love it, and the visuals were amazing. This satisfied my twisted appetite for today, thanks for sharing. Scholar

Thanks... It had been to long since I wrote the axe man... That 1 line was the meat of this poem... Just the sight of a maniac standing over a tied up victim with an axe in hand, should be more than enough to make a poem worth reading...lol
