Burn
By purr_verse
I am more beautiful than you.
You are lauded and applauded -
from afar -
but up close
you're gaudy, tacky, overwrought and
uncomfortable.
But I am beautiful, and I am patient,
and I am relentless;
and I shall take your brightness,
choke the life from it,
slowly
gloriously
in fire and amber and rust,
and you shall not be mourned
because I am beautiful
and all they will see
is my magnificence.
And my destruction
will be unstoppable
and your death
will be as nothing
and my reign
will stain the world
royal purples, passionate reds, violent yellows,
the fires of true glory,
and your only remaining shade
will be of envy.

Purr, it's wonderful to see you back around! I think we've been ships crossing in the night on this site for years. Thanks for posting a suggested reading list -- I'll be going through it :)

this evokes, for me, an image of our sun, as it ages and expands to consume our little world.

The green-eyed monster has returned! A scathing characterization PV and guessing somebody done her wrong. Beauty, determination, and the world is at your feet. We are not worthy :) Cheers! - Dan

I came by your page on the off chance you'd been back here in the years since I last visited . . . this was like finding the last piece of chocolate at the bottom of the basket. This was deliciously vicious. Love, love. It's like, I knew all these words before, but when you use them, you paint them into life.

Killing summer! "...in fire and amber and rust" gloriously.&,in - - glorious guise: the season that falls, leaves all 'round, is the season that kills... a poignant work of art, as autumns' kiss.

This one got personal. Had to do a few double takes to make sure it was you who posted. This is what I needed to read this evening...I am being slowly suffocated by the bright beauty of many truths. I do envy, & I do feel very gaudy, tacky, overwrought, & uncomfortable these days. Your poem helps purge this feeling. Now to burn the corpse. Blaze on.
