dirt.

By Malice In Wonderland

I'm sick of treading water
endless currents
dragging me.down
down
further into these
fucked up inadequacies

now

I can hold my.own
just fine
but
the precious burdens I carry
cannot
and they
they
are fragile
and innocent
the only beauty
left in my world
and
they
are forced
down
by
the tides
by the lack of compassion
and it's hard
to look into their faces
and open palms
and know
my hands are empty

struggling
to keep them afloat
with
no liferaft
in sight

no lifegaurd
to care
that they
are weary
just like me

they do not deserve
this fate
this indifference
as they are only human
only young

they do not understand
legalities
or law
cannot grasp the concept
of technicality
and it's not fair
because
if nothing else
they deserve to grow
and flourish

if nothing else
they deserve
a chance.

Yo, Ashe, my mom has been there, interesting to see the view from another perspective. Tons of respect for the single moms!

I can't say it will get better, in fact, sometimes it doesn't, and things may seem hopeless, running on in a domino effect, worsening as each piece falls into the next. Hope is often all we have left...if even that. Painfully relatable & nicely penned!

It's entirely too hurtful of a read- I wish I could hand you a solution
