How a Poet Tips His Waitress

By lupus tenebrae

I gaze into a plaid portrait
of home, right as my soul

settles like warm butter
from a humble place

and the froth from my
chai tea grazes my tongue

in a coy fashion: stealing
an errant verse from my lips

then leaving an epicĀ
in its place.

I enjoyed myself so much, that I couldn't simply leave the usual tip, so...I left a little something extra: penned right as I was leaving the booth, with a few alterations.

enjoyed the casual comfort of the setting, and how the calm drew such a lucid work.

I loved, "stealing an errant verse from my lips, then leaving an epic in its place" that is so true and I think that's pretty common for a poet but nobodys ever put it like that. haha awesome!

I agree with Todd. That was the best part of the piece. Excellently wrought, as always.
