Once a Friend of Olivine
By lupus tenebrae
I search her eyes of olivine
for signs
of life in lavender.
I chip the paint with turpentine
and watch
her flood the colander.
A time in terms of calendars
has passed
beneath her windowsill.
A time of us and bitter pills
has fallen
beyond denial.
She fell for a heart of guile,
I fell for her
nurturing soul,
now I am holding her smile,
a picture as worthless
as coal.

I don't normally care for rhyme schemes, but this flowed really nicely. "I search her eyes of olivine"... this was a great starter and a wonderful lead in. Beautiful poem

Memories are our treasures and our torture, exquisite Wolfie. Wasn't Olivine the girlfriend of Popeye? (HA)! Cheers!

Heartbreaking. The image of fleeting sand in a stiff breeze comes to mind.
