For Raven

By BetaWolfinVA

is it love, when first
you see someone across the
street you forever
,
loose any semblance
of strength to distance yourself
from the one you see
,
is it fatal pride
utter hubris distancing
yourself from loved one
,
to prove to yourself
that you have the strength to do
things that "must" be done
,
is it right to let
the one you love pass through your
hands again, twice struck
,
would i had married
you, accepting the small cost
of time spent away
,
discarded the one
that misfortune had me wed
for the second chance
,
now you have someone
else wed, when my soul echoes
only to your name
,
in the empty parts
of my shattered, lonely soul
with scant room for her
,
would that i could have
understood the screams of my
heart-ache calling you
