Um...just a short monologue to go, thanks.
By purr_verse
Welcome, sir. Madam.
I'll be your poem for the evening.
Follow me, please.
Make yourselves comfortable.
Tonight's specials are fresh sonnet,
homemade iambic pentameter
and potluck postmodern experimentia.
(though i'm afraid punc.tu.ation can/not be...Guaranteed there.)
And, as I'm sure you're aware,
epics must be ordered in advance.
As a special thankyou for tasting my poetry,
one complimentary haiku
will be included with every order.
Perhaps you'd like to try something
from my line of freeform self-referential monologues?
Themes are available upon request.
First-person poetic form analysis
is enjoying quite the renaissance.
Lyrical discourse? Of course,
though it can take, you see, more time to prepare
for the metre is measured with utmost of care
And a quality lyric
is all about timing;
Not in topic or hour -
I'm speaking of rhyming.
Whatever the style
I'll be back in a while
to take your order.
Payment is in verbiage.
Any extra words you can spare
would be greatly appreciated.
I'm saving up
to be a novel.

"epics must be ordered in advance." Pure genius! "Lyrical discourse? Of course" Very clever! The best poem about a Poem characterized that I've ever read, and then: "I'm saving up
to be a novel." Snap! Love the twist... & the title is perfect. Seems this one has been hiding from me, heh! Very well composed. Bravo!

Why was I not surprised when, after reading this wonderful, whimsical, wise piece, I scrolled up and saw your name? A beautiful, effortlessly well-crafted work, charming, witty and insightful. The last lines are a perfect punchline to this joke-that-isn't. Thank you :)
