Drive for the Sake of Driving

By lupus tenebrae

Learning is a
lifelong roadtrip:

we're so sure-footed,
at first,

so certain of the
path that lies ahead...

then we start losing
daylight as if it were

only skin deep. We
can barely make out

all the red flags and
warning signs placed

there in foresight
and our destination

becomes an opaque mess
of countryside and regret.

All we can do
is drive for the sake

of driving, and pray
that the untold miles

haven't broken us
by the time our journey ends.

A little something I addressed to my cousin, who just graduated on Sunday...I hope he takes some of this to heart.
