Promises in Stillness

By lupus tenebrae

In the stillness of an evening sky,
there are phantoms;
promises promising to be kept

and instead, are mistranslated
from conflicted maybes and half-nods
to one-sided affirmation.

They must have been lost,
somewhere in the discord
between blackbirds

and left standing at attention,
blissfully forgotten;
their resonance still heard

over the stillness of an evening sky.
