My Philosophy of Teaching - 1/21/2004
By Mr King
My philosophy of teaching is centered on bonding with my students. I do
this in order that I may form a mutually empowering relationship with them.
I am a teacher who consciously works to find the proper balance in between
relating to my students in an uplifting and caring way, and disciplining
them in a motivational and constructive way.
I feel that my nearly 3 years of full time substitute elementary school
teaching in Central Los Angeles has shown me that the most effective way
to teach and get my students to learn and get the most as human beings
out of the time that we spend together varies from class to class. For
example, some classes and students need more discipline while others need
more caring. It is a challenge that I embrace to truly impact my student's
lives in a strong, creative, and mind opening way, or by merely being authentic,
open, and human with them. I am a student of teaching, and of my students,
and I always will be.
I believe and know that I can make a difference in my student's lives.
I seek to show them new ways of being, thinking, taking action, and understanding
life and their own relationship to it. I seek and work intelligently to
empower them to set themselves intelligently free. I seek and work intelligently
to empower them to set and achieve for themselves whatever goals they choose
for themselves.
Education should be stimulating, interactive, exploratory, enlightening,
transformational, and fun. I create it as such for my students, and they
make it that way for me as well.

Huh, I never thought the variation was so great that you had to change your teaching style per class to tailor its needs. Great insight. ~T~
