Smoke and Mirrors
By Scarrzz
Look.
Look deep inside your own candlelit reflection.
See the fire ?
You remember how it burns, full of light
and life.
Touch it, take it into your soul.
Burns
doesn’t it? With ecstasy if you do it right.
But what if
it goes too far?
What if the flame becomes a wildfire raging
through your heart and mind
Uncontrolled ?
Love
is a flame.
True love is a flame without reservations, without
limits. Walk willingly into the inferno and expect not to be burned.
Fool
When the screaming has subsided and the ashes
have been scattered you will still yearn for more.

You are an amazing writer... I love this poem, we are forever searching for love no matter the pain we know is to come from it... You couldn't have said this any better.. I love it :)

I can't help but get this image of someone finding love in his/her reflection... where the light of ecstasy is discovered in the heat of the reflection... scared me a bit I must say. On the other hand... reading it as I believe it was intended... love seems to be nothing but smoke and mirrors. .. maybe.... is that what you get when you read this?

No, your first impression gets the nod. Love is not an illusion. Love comes from within, burning and growing in out hearts as we open to it. The light and heat from it can become so intense that they burn away life itself, leaving only smoke - in essence the memory of that all devouring flame. I wanted the reader to consider the possibility that love is real enough to burn away every other meaning in life. I intended the classical colloquialism of "Smoke and Mirrors" to be a juxtaposition. I am screaming that love is not fake, but that life without love in it is fake and meaningless. * * * At the end I bitterly despise the fact that that which was needed to bring warmth and life, since it was left unattended, has brought devastation. * * * Thank you Ainsof, for your always penetrating and well considered comments.

haha... yeah, I didn't think that second 'take' was anything close to what you intended... just bein a lil facetious there ya know. Hey, you're always welcome, bud. But still, any mention of ecstasy and one's own reflection scares me. I get all narcissistic or something, and I can never find the Rolaids.
