I Am A Shadow - Reprised

By shadowwv

I am a shadow, why you did ask
Let these words remove the mask
I made a promise long ago
Never to crowd, invasion to forego
So now I stand and I wait
Knowing I cannot escape promise’s fate
I opened the door but stand outside
While all else moves on in it’s stride
More grew of its own free will
Something I never expected to feel
The gift is freely given yet not taken
Alone in the shadows but not forsaken
The adage goes if you love someone set them free
So my promise overshadows me
Never shall I crowd I promised true
I give trust and loyal love their due
I am a shadow why was what you did ask
I am a shadow, tis my self promised task.

Dang, that one hit very close to home for me. I was promised never ending friendship but she whom I loved went away, met someone else, then asked me to leave. She knows I will never go where I am not wanted, so I can empathize with this work. It is a deep pain that still holds sway over my every hour. Thanks for sharing this. Scholar
