My Philosophy of Teaching - 2004

By Mr King

The purpose of teaching is to instill knowledge and guide a student on a path of discovery and self-actualization.

I believe every child is a unique and special human being who can learn and powerfully enjoy learning.

I believe it is my responsibility to serve as a facilitator in the evolution, awakening, and development of my students academically, socially, emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually.

I am committed to creating the opportunity for all of my students to become successful learners and healthy human beings.

I am committed to projecting positive expectations to my students and making a real difference in all of my student?s lives.

I am committed to sharing new ways of being, thinking, taking action, and understanding life and their own relationship to it with my students.

I am committed to my students attaining levels of academic excellence.

I am committed to empowering my students in order that they are progressively able to achieve whatever goals they set for themselves in life.

I am committed to empowering my students in order that they are progressively able to set themselves intelligently free.

I am committed to being authentic, open, and human with my students.

I am committed to being powerfully related to my students in order that I may form a mutually empowering relationship with them.

I am committed to embracing the challenge of truly impacting my student?s lives in a powerful, creative, and life expanding way.

I am committed as a teacher to always remain free and creative, somewhat of a progressive rebel on the frontier of the institution of teaching, on an ever-evolving journey of awakening, educating, and empowering my students.

I am committed to utilizing a constructivist student-centered psychological approach as much as possible and a behaviorist teacher-centered approach whenever it is necessary in my classroom.

I am committed to creating a stimulating, interactive, exploratory, enlightening, transformational, and fun classroom environment and experience.

I am committed to making learning fun. Children, and people in general, are attracted to fun, and fun makes learning more possible quantitatively and qualitatively as long as integrity to learning standards of excellence is the foundation.

I am committed to creating groundbreaking ways to affect powerful learning in the children, the school, the community, the state, the country, and the world.

I am committed to providing opportunities that will assist my students in making self-directed, realistic, and responsible decisions when solving problems in our multi-cultural and often increasingly complex world.

I am committed to working cooperatively with other teachers, faculty, and administrators to be a force of positive energy, information, knowledge, wisdom, understanding, truth, love, and empowerment in the school and community.

I am committed to communicating openly and frequently concerning the current status and progress of my students with parents and administrators.

I am committed to seeking a mentor, or many different mentors, or becoming a collaborator with other educators as much as possible and as necessary.

I am committed as a teacher to becoming a mentor to other teachers when the opportunity presents itself.

I am committed to being capable of being totally flexible as a teacher and yet immovable as a rock when it is the right thing to do also.

I am committed to being able to bond on a personal level with my students while still being able to maintain complete authority in my classroom also.

I am committed to consciously working to find the proper balance in between relating to my students in an uplifting and caring way, and disciplining them in a motivational and constructive way.

I am a committed to always being a student of teaching, and also always of my students themselves.

Finally, I am committed to being a champion, conqueror, and builder of a future made up of champions and intelligent conquerors who are on the road to being and knowing who they are, empowered with truth, understanding, and knowledge, and fully educated to standards of academic excellence.
