Matchstick lives

By Circe Avalon

Short lived and too soon burnt out
The red tip stuck against existence
only after the climax, the fire that is life
It all turns black and bites our fingertips

All wasted carbon and new ash
If only the fire lived for a longer amount of time
if only the fuel we ran on never ran out
if only we could make this time we have mean more than it does right now
