The Scene
By colorapathy
The scene, it lights the stage anew.
Applause ascends velvet from view.
The stage appears, coalesced in night.
A beam, as moth confused in flight,
sets pale. Its wings, still spread, unveil.
A hint unfolds as to its tale.
The light consumes the moth beneath.
A spell, unfurled, its charm bequeathed.
Applause denotes its span of life.
The darkness falls as though by knife.
The stage sets bare with hopeful breath,
and waits for dusk, the stages’ requite.
Return pale moth, again alight.
Once more, sad tale, reborn, takes flight.

I'd love to scansion this more, but the iambs are unmistakable in places... may have a couple trochees here or there and even a couple spondaic feet in "sad tale" and "again", I think... but I can only imagine the difficulty in writing measured verse... and with notable imagery, too! kudos and congrats!

Congratulations on the win with an excellent, rhythmic piece with such divine imagery. I could quote several, but my favorite by far is "The darkness falls as though by knife." This had such a timeless, classic baroque feeling to it. Well done, indeed.
