Indigenous

By Circe Avalon

In the satin and painted skin,
Is how we share our wounds my friends,
And in the creeping twilight gaze,
The moon beams whisper to the braves,
The buffalo of the tawny plains,
Feed them near their wintry blaze

And in the jungle do they run,
From the harsh and boiling sun,
The Amazons of ebony skin,
Near the ragging river bend,
In the trees the monkeys howl,
And in their hearts they hear a growl

In the Sahavana where the lioness hunts,
And the gentle gazelles pull marvelous stunts,
Nomads wander with only their herds,
And the wild animals flock like birds,
To the slowly fading water holes,
Is where they have their makeshift homes

And in the outback lies an offer still,
An indigenous people of iron will,
The red sand spreads across the horizon,
And in the night the stars are like diamonds,
Behind the lurking dingoes lands,
Lies their history of painted hands

Tribal tattoos and languages unknown,
We share with them a trivial tone,
Mankind as we are, we've forgot,
This earth we share, we have not yet lost,
This blood link is our only key,
To bring us to a reality

When our world was sparkling and new,
This is what we used to do,
Live off the land, we have spoiled now,
With pick, shove and the plow,
They are not so different then us,
Our difference is we have the money lust

This makes me sick just thinking about it. All those animals whose habitats have been ruined. ~*~Tart~*~

beautifully done - and we have fucked everything up and it just might be too late to fix it - and I do wish I were back in those days!!!
