things I'll never tell you

By Taunting The Reaper

so close
nearly single digits away
the dilemma of certainty binding me
tightly knit overtures begin a subtle advance

peeking over my shoulder
peeking through open wounds
a resplendent apparition glowing delicately
behind me
within me
the very scaffolding that long ago
gave soothing repair

I want you to know so many things
but it's late and the night seems content
to leave us both in an empty border town
somewhere between this very moment
and my very last breath

white moonrise glory
soaring out to sea with caustic brilliance
the heavens flooding into eternity
tonight devoured in rare form
by the things I'll never say to you

the absolute legitimacy of these hidden things
now no more than savage, white knuckled fists
banging on empty tables
as lips sealed and bursting
through barbed wire stitches
so eager to shout into a thunderous rainstorm
all the things I'll never tell you

a tender, trembling beast visits tonight
carefully wounding me
not enough to kill me
just enough to let me know
I'm more alive right now then I've been for a while
and I'm still not saying a word
