Death Throes
By dwells
He gave them one more chance to get it right
A final chance to save them from the fall
But those in charge were from the pit of night
He strove against the odds to bring the light
They gathered at his side, the great and small
He gave them one more chance; to their delight
His flaming sword extinguished in the fight
“Betrayed again” was written on the wall
While those in charge would celebrate his plight
The faithful closed their eyes to such a sight
With stoppered ears, refused the battle’s call
Too late, their final chance to put things right
Then history records the world alight
One billion candles at the tomb of all
Returned again into that pit of night
The world became a cinder, born of spite
And who he was, none will, or can recall
The netherworld reclaims Man’s saddest height
He gave them one more chance to get it right
Now darkness rules and I must say “Goodnight”

So applicable so many places, for myself the haunting miscalculations precipitating wwl and the sense we are in another guilted age awaiting a hard fall into the void a la 1914

I'll have to look up that sword swinger's origin MV. But, I did know Gilles de Rais from a Playboy write-up on his bio; many moons ago. Cheers to Poetess Darkly and Sagacious Sol also - Dan

Corruption has no bounds as I hear the echo of the media hounds, abound. That is the problem today, there is so much corruption that I find my senses dulled by the never-ending storm of what is now just the norm! Great write!
