Agent Provocateur
Oh noble savage in the fern,
some things you know, some things you learn,
while altruistic values churn.
Your need was us, you feigned concern:
your empathy was ours to earn.
When other cheeks refused to turn,
the purest did by guilt discern.
Enamored by the words you voiced,
your acolytes were green and moist;
with single-mindedness you foist
your banner that the faithful hoist,
above the smoke – the mob rejoiced.
You did them “well”, no battles won,
your legions marched into the sun;
by actions were your words undone.
Your holy grail became an urn;
to find your heaven, we must burn.

Good ol' King Louie 16'th & Marie Antoinette seem to be the primary provocators in this to me. Let them eat cake! But it turns green & moist after a while; because well, a sweet-tooth only goes so far. Kudos!

This was a wonder of intrigue...For some reason I read this as a poem about nature vs man and the idea of the destruction of nature by man as an insane victory. Yeah, this poem is about insanity.

Thanks CJ and I think this was about the purity of the savage innocents; above that of the rude encroachment of a civilized chaos. I can't recall the specific trigger now, possibly a discussion on cultural equivalencies? Cheers my friend! - Dan

...Open to interpretation is an understatement, there are so many possibilities; colored by our own own experiences. For me this echoed my thoughts of the 2 pawns in our latest election. Yet another amazing work by you.

I enjoyed this joy-ride! Before I saw the comments, I was picturing a gnome king with a secret army watching from your garden. As a proud embracer of the cheesy elements of suburbia, I have several of these folk in my yard, one even positioned to look through the ferns... : ) Ciao, T/S

"To find your heaven, we must burn." Lord knows, there is a certain satisfaction in calling out literal provocateurs, as I'm sure there is a certain satisfaction in literally smashing windows and burning down buildings. It's a game where everyone wins, except insurance companies.

Thanks Adagios, and Specter was red-hot. Actually The Pied Piper of Armageddon might be a close approximation. Cheers all! - Dan
