Forgotten Poets

By Stranger

This morning while I woke
My consciousness stirring
Against crackling spider webs
I could hear the faint and distant voices
Of forgotten poets
Long dead
Weary from wandering
Unable to reach the light
Unwilling to let go their heavy sacks
Of poetry and rocks
Waiting to be told
That they are loved
That they are genius and beautiful
But I would not hear them
I covered my ears
And sang loudly a song
I told myself: "This cannot be"
For last night in a dream
I was dying
A light calling me
Telling me to leave behind
My poems in a coffee can
With instructions
To burn them with my ashes
For here you will not be alone
Here the light is love
Here light is everywhere
Pain is only the shape of flesh
There is no poetry here

    Incredible work of art.

But I like the rather unique concept of poetry being something to get rid of, something deserving catharsis rather than treasure... is it the bond that drives those who never find the light?

This was a dreamy write. One suggestion to line 7. Wearing should be weary.

i liked wearing a lot better... gives the sense of stone turning to sand and drifting away... but what'll ya do... *laugh* ah, sweet sweet adjectives

... i get the feeling that this piece, so far has been misunderstood, utterly... else there would be much better commentary... (watch me totally misunderstand myself, lol)...

stapled to the earth by the flesh of your neck... bleeding and pouring out something (certainly, certainly) less than special... bleeding... something fades like oxygen not quite getting the brain...

it all fades, and here is the white room (rather dull... frankly) where all is right and words are meaningless

MasoFish, Your compliment is humbling. However, the fact that you were able to convey the soul of my poem in its entirety, with fewer words and more eloquence, thus upstaging the poem itself, is just dirty pool. Showoff.

Nice, for lack of better words. This was a deep piece, and I don't know, I just really like it. Great job.
