Pieces

By cre

Standing on feet that were bleeding
By a cold and crashing sea
Catching a sound in the distance
Like a child gently calling to me

I limped for a ways before seeing
The brokenness under my toes
Pieces of something once different
Fragments of something once whole

I was raining and crying in pieces
I was lost and alone on the floor
I was scattered and tattered and beaten
On the edge of a broken-shelled shore

I fell to my knees without feeling
The points as they punctured my skin
Cradling a shell that was shattered
And crying as I saw her within

She was tiny and silently hiding
In a corner of a very dark room
Child of a father turned rapist
In the shadow of childhood consumed

I was crying and dying in pieces
I was shattered and torn on the floor
I was scattered and tattered and beaten
On the edge of a broken-shelled shore

I gathered the brokenness to me
While my tears washed away all the dirt
Each little shred was a piece of the past
And I held in my heart the hell and the hurt

My fingers imparted to each forlorn bit
The pain and the love that I felt
And there on the beach a new growth began
As among all the pieces I knelt

I'd been shattered and scattered in pieces
I'd been left all alone on the floor
My teardrops were raining forever
On the edge of a broken-shelled shore

I was standing on feet that were stronger
By a wild and beautiful sea
And the song that I heard in the distance
Was the sound of my Soul finding Me.

I liked the way you always seem to hold onto hope, even if by a thread in your writings. Maybe not so much hope but strength to overcome.

  • A former member wrote: this is very powerful. the emotions are all expressed clearly, and the imagery is as if I were watching it on a high definition TV. beautiful. :)

Jane, you are one of the best writers I have ever had the pleasure of reading. If you ever stop, I will hunt you down, take your brain, and connect it to a writing machine of some sort, you get the picture. Keep it up.
