Casualties

By cre

She was born on a moonless night
In a shed with only candle-light
In a land hit hard with famine and with war
Yet she was treasured
Beyond measure
And grew to be a lovely child of four

Her blue eyes sparkled like no other
Her auburn hair curled like her Mother's
And all adored her tinkling laugh and gentle ways
Until one night
In a senseless fight
A lead-filled feud put an end to her earthly days

She was just another casualty
A senseless loss, killed casually
In a world where the meaning of sacred is lost
Ashes and dust are waiting
In this lovely place we're creating
And I fear we underestimate the cost

**

She had seen so many days
And wandered paths in many ways
Always trying to help each soul she met
Her wrinkled face
Held a special place
To those who knew they'd never repay the debt

All she asked was kindness passed
In the hopes that someday the trend might last
And love and caring would live in many hearts
But then one night
In headlights bright
Her life was lost in the path of some drunk's car

She was just another casualty
A senseless loss, killed casually
In a world where the meaning of sacred is lost
Ashes and dust are waiting
In this lovely place we're creating
And I fear we underestimate the cost

**

He had travelled round this world
And seen such majesties unfurled
He wished to recreate the glory he found
With a feather-light touch
And his inspired paint-brush
He gave birth to the most lovely art around

A quiet soul, his passionate fire
To show people beauty, his only desire
And bring to their lives some excitement and joy
Until one night
Some country's fight
Dropped a bomb and obliterated this gentle boy

He was just another casualty
A senseless loss, killed casually
In a world where the meaning of sacred is lost
Ashes and dust are waiting
In this lovely place we're creating
And I fear we underestimate the cost

**

Most live their lives so pointlessly
Wandering blindly, aimlessly
A million peons forsaking life for lust
Never reaching
and forget teaching
Just passing time until they turn to dust

**

They were just unending casualties
They lived and died so casually
In a world where the meaning of sacred was lost
Ashes and death were waiting
In the nothing they continued creating
And how sad, that they never even knew the cost.

I once read somewhere of the string theory. that the world is all connected to each other by strings. once you sever one it has a rippling effect. vibrating to the rest of the strings and those strings are changed forever. I love this poem. great write.

Yes, life makes little sense sometimes! Some religions would have us believe that this life is only a small part of 'gods' plan for us. The bad bastards will get theirs in the next chapter . What utter bull shit! The structure of this was amazing and song like! Splendid stuff!

  • A former member wrote: Beautiful reminder of how the world really is. This poem really explains how normal people suffer for no reasons. I rarely cry when reading poems, but I must say I came very close. What can I say, the truth hurts.

It's sad that sensless acts often kills the most beautiful people of the world and the assholes seem unscathed.
