winter's night
By Taunting The Reaper
winter brings the darkness sooner
the mere few hours in a day seem
diminished, illusionary
a crafty darkling; summoned by despair
in the bitterest night you remember
reaches into the very fabric of our shared hope
to steal that which shines brightest
in our lives
hungry talons drag across the floor
as a muddled voice is cackling nearer
mocking words whisper intimately
and the vacuous gloom of this empty night
floods through the room
with maniacal shadows dancing carelessly
waiting for you to dare to notice
winter brings the darkness sooner
closer
more familiar; the dreaded part knowingly
searching for you
much in the way the dearly departed search
for you in dreams
and as you drift off
into the heart of this shadow world
your tired grip will slip
as you surrender into the depths of
a winter's night

If this is any indication of how well you write, I will be reading all of your poems

the gloom comes no matter the season... although it seems that in winter we see it the most... maybe it's the cold or the way things seem to still and sleep... you caught the feel of it quite adeptly and conveyed it, as always, with a depth that eases along the emotions and feelings so well...
