Gunslinger's Walk
By Malcholm Dark
He
is hell-bent for leather...
Back in the days of old,
of the cowboy and western lore
When beer was a nickle and a dollar
bought so much more.
Lived a man of great fame, his story stood
tall
He was worshiped by many and feared by them all.
A man
of grit who made others eat sand
A killer by nature this gunfighting
man.
--He is hell-bent for leather and lives for the kill
this
warning to all with self-glorifying talk.
--His short-barreled
Colts have sent many to boothill
stay clear of the man with a gunslinger's
walk!
A drifter is he and travels alone, making his
own way around
This man of legend, a reputation precedes him
in every town.
Silver spurs that shimmer in a western shine
His gold watch he checks, a quarter past nine.
Cat calls from
a stranger that carry his name
This gunslinger's walk unto destiny
and fame!
--He is hell-bent for leather and lives for the kill
this warning to all with self-glorifying talk.
--His short-barreled
Colts have sent many to boothill
yet, another awaits this gunslinger's
walk!
With the coming of prey, his soul remains bottomless
The gunslinger's eyes then become hard and motionless.
With the
sun at his back, a gun strapped to his side
All thoughts become
focused, confidence is his guide.
So young is this out-matched
and inexperienced man
And death deposits another face down in
the sand!
On his Colt, another notch is carved in the handle
In the church, another priest lights one more candle.
--He is
hell-bent for leather and lives for the kill
this warning to
all with self-glorifying talk.
--his short-barreled Colts have
sent many to boothill
none faster than he with a gunslinger's
walk!
Back in the days of old, of the cowboy and
western lore
A gunman's fate was his own doing, that and nothing
more.
He stood tall in the face of destiny and fame
But
was shot down by one with an unknown name.
A lifetime abound within
the dust of glory
A killer by nature; and that was his story.
--He was hell-bent for leather and lived for the kill
although
the way that he died seemed an unglorified act.
--He amassed
thirty-one kills on his way to boothill
an end to the
gunslinger's walk...
murdered--shot
in the back!

Nice job. I love the old west, gunslinger days. I don 't know if you listen to gothic- country music, but this would fit perfect in a song. Awesome piece. later -

He who lives by the sword... Reminded me of Billy the Kid (shot in the back). I think the term "gunslinger" set everybody to thinking about the Dark Tower series. I enjoyed the lobstrosities along the beach (or whatever they were called). This was true to the tradition of the old west - there's always somebody faster, or cowardly.

Thanks... I thought about him too, but be never carved notches in his gun or killed that many people in gunfights... I was looking at the old dime novel gunfighter... the men who were read about and talked about and the facts weren't always right....

I could just imagine the tumbleweeds blowing as the the gunslinger claimed another victim. I imagined how everyone just watched from inside the saloon, very cool images. It was a rather unglorified way for him to die, but a legend is still a legend. Well done again Dark, thanks.
