Wayward Child

By RubyXero

Held fast to the rod.
Faith unwavering.
Truth. they know. In life.
death. God!...
These 'LDS' parents of mine.

Guarded by their wings of judgement
they lived my life.
"Find out who you are, Ciera..."
echoeing in my soul.
...
But looking down upon what
I've found.

A day of joy.
A wedding!
In a temple they are joined.
Unable to see my sisters' marriage.
..Unworthy.
Yet I wait outside.
And here! Out she comes.
So happy. I'm going
through film like candy.
Glancing behind...I see them.
Snap a photo.
One of each
to. remember...
My...parents... They are just
glowing! Smiles so big. So genuine.

And I trail off.
A future scene with me...
wedding gown of night,
gliding passed the tombstones
on a cloudy,...lovely day.
Yet. ...if they came.
I cannot help but wonder.
Would they even FORCE
a smile for my satisfaction.
No. I doubt it.

And yet I disappoint again.
"A baby without marriage?"

OH THE HORROR!!!

I come back for more.
I hope. I yearn.
Please. Be proud of me.
Accept me.
See...how I've grown...

...
In a chill of defeat,
to my mother I utter.
"I know you will never.
be proud of me. I accept.
that. I only. ask.
for your support."

in vain?

well you sure are going through a field of razor-wire aren't you? i believe you are fully capable of handling all this in the long run. be strong, plan things knowing your own actions and abilities are what's for certain. do that, and vain questions or not, you'll be fine.

  • A former member wrote: Yes, you ask in vain. God, I love this poem! You are awesome! I've been there and done that also. Come to terms with it, or it will eat you alive.

This really pulled at my heartstrings and my favorite line "I'm going through film like candy." was so selfless, so beautiful, that I have to believe the person who wrote it deserves more than I can ever extol.
