Faery
By Butterfly
In front of a candle she sits, stares...
Her golden faery eyes fixed on the candle flame
Images dance on her fair features
Shadows and light mix and float through the cool spring air
Oaken soldiers stand around looking suspiciously upon her prophecy
The shadows play with their features
The faery girl screams as the flame consumes her
Nobody moves to help
She screams in agonizing pain
She stands and rises up to float around the forest clearing
"You will all pay for this injustice!"
She wails again in pain
None bow their heads in shame
They just look on with black unfeeling faces
Dark clouds boil into the clear starry sky
The moon, full and round, blinks out as it's hidden by clouds
Brilliant violet lightning strikes the grassy clearing
So close to her it singes the hair on her milky white arm
All are frozen as the tranquil clearing is engulfed by flames
Suddenly...
Raindrops fall on her pale still face
Her golden hawk-like eyes open in sudden awareness
Using her thin silvery wings she shields herself from the onslaught of
rain
She looks around to see her candle long extinguished
The oak trees still stand firm around her
No flame
All is how it started
She shakes the vision from her mind
The moon is bright and the rain begins to fall harder
She takes refuge in a hollowed out tree and contemplates what she has seen
in her mind's eye...
The end of the world.
