Milady's requiem: good-bye froggy doggy

By Taunting The Reaper

soft, furry love

a relentless, yapping ray of sunshine

for the day

belly-up sweet dreams of treats

for the night

it was too short a time for us

so seeing you again isn’t in the stars

our moments together were a testament

proving two partner species can create family

and the empty space you left with us lives on

I will thank you now though you are too far away

to listen

you’ve already said I’m welcome

I know this

because the little bells we once clipped on your collar

still ring in soothing notes of wondrous nostalgia

that pierce through death itself

to fearlessly climb back on my lap

good-bye Milady

good dog

dear friend

part of me went with you

part of you stays with me

Author's Note:

this is a poem for a dear old dog who died recently, she deserved better though I think being the center of attention once more would have definately made her happy

Really sorry to hear you've lost a friend. Feel you captured just the right images here and think a lot of people can probably relate in their own way. Thank you for sharing and I hope the good memories outweigh the sadness.
