haunted dreamer

By Taunting The Reaper

the watch-faced henchmen of moments

yet to pass

often find me unprepared

as I linger and procrastinate

knowing full well these henchmen

are never late

it's always been within my nature

to tempt the whimsical temperament of fate;

deathly cruel in one moment

pointlessly generous in the next

by standing my ground ill-equipped

caught like a deer in headlights

caught like a fish too easily hooked

it may very well be that I abhor

the careful art of preparation

that seems to stifle

my most glorious meditations

the lingering, gentle smoky haze

that keeps the noisy traffic at bay

damn the henchmen!

I only have a moment left of sleep

before they arrive

Living our lives on a timeclock perhaps, clock in then clock out later, and prepare to do it all over again tomorrow. Much enjoyed, thanks.
