counting steps of midnight
By Taunting The Reaper
corrupted darkness is a misery wept for
a purity lingered for
a prayer whispered for
a shining, brazen sun writhing for
swim in it for me
the very depths of it
inhale it for me
call it mighty emptiness
sing it from a stage
glow it in the mere reaches
of a star
give me breath in one moment
and death in the next
reach for its dying light
the way dogs howl at the moon
say anything
or wait for crickets in the moonlight
counting the steps of midnight
