I've loved brick walls

By Lylani

I’ve loved brick walls
Been smothered by rose petals
Bound in spider webs
And left on street corners

I’ve believed promises from wine bottles
And made them too
Cried away happy endings
Down drains of serendipity
I’ve watched shooting stars
Dart from my grasp
Chased the winds
And been left standing

I’ve held my own hand
And feared to be touched
I’ve given myself
To be thrown in the trash
I’ve smiled through the tears
I’ve loved and been broken

Thought myself jaded
Made myself cold
Stripped naked in snow
I felt that alone

Been bound in barbed wire
Bled all of my sorrow
Then found a lone candle
And cowered beside

So small
Yet so perfect
You gave me your warmth
Softened my fears
Till they melted away

Draped me in beauty
Bathed me in hope
Helped me to stand
Never asked me to change

Just crept into my heart
I love you always
