Cosmic Striptease
By Carmina Gitana
When the bonfire of drunken gods
rose, unattended, past their control
& burned a heart-shaped breach in black velvet,
gaping immodestly,
carelessly
exposing an intimate decimal of sky
that contorted,
naked & furious
at the imposition,
the invasion, the rudeness,
the cheek of it,
you were there. You saw it all
and
didn't compound the violation
by averting your eyes.
Politeness nothing -
when the universe cracks open,
when the cards tumble into a yes,
when the seventh
veil hits the floor,
politeness is an insult.
But
morning slammed
a bright blue boudoir door,
all pretty priggish
prudishness,
white lace & cotton. Cotton-mouthed,
hung-over,
groggy and ashamed, the erstwhile
savages pretended it
never happened.
No one saw it.
Until it never happened.
Until no one saw it,
in all its flame-framed glory
but you. So let them walk
beneath boudoir blue skies,
daylight-glazed
eyes and all.
You know what's there,
behind black velvet.
You know what's waiting.

Another stunning piece! I absolutely love the the 5th verse. I read it over several times to fully absorb its subtly and brilliance. I am doubly humbled by your praise for my pic. Because your poem is truly amazing and I think that you are one the best photographers I have ever been exposed to.

That is a stunning photograph, even if enhanced a bit for clarity or whatever.... I love the idea of drunken gods..... the bonfire in the sky... I wonder if that is what's waiting behind the black velvet.. politeness is an insult... love the contradiction, reminiscent of a Derridean deconstruction of the ethical, maybe... the daylight glazed eyes.... will they in all their sulkiness see this raging fire beyond the veil... the 7th... hehe, my favorite digit.... thank you for this introspective expose and picture of the heavens...

What this guy said. Thanks for being an artist, your English major etiquette and refined sense of semantic skill is very much missed. I do hope you are well. All the best to you, ms gypsy, always.
