still. born

By Narcissa

Dawn trickled down his chin
Like a rusty nail pried from an old barn
...could nothing hold him?
This man, once a child, not from my womb
But loved the same
...the stained cloth that dangled from his wrists
Told me he never knew...
and now...when angels are scarce
Feeding off breath of newborns
It is the ones who want to go that have to stay.

even after all this time this still makes me murmur under breath, makes me whisper. cry. beautiful if only too heartbreaking. but the good things sometimes are.

I've been wondering where you went! I'm so glad you wrote something and posted it. That last line is a piercing truth that bleeds the person you speak of. This was awesome.
