A Soul Astray

Knocking on Satan’s door
In hopes of some day, attaining his cure,
Loathing the life that is
In its wake,
Regret is all that spills
Seeping into night and day
Getting by becomes a play,
Approaching that time of day
You lay down and drift away,
Death watches you in your sleep
Stirring nightmares, to make you weep,
Causing abrupt twists and turns
Awakening any old concerns
Seated at your feet
He probes for any signs of weak
Envious of the other side
He toys with you,
Then subsides,
Drinking your life away
In hopes that surely one day,
You can grasp death by the hand
And venture through Satan’s land.
