They Have Departed
By HeadpatSlut
They Are Departed
Here I sit, I'm here alone-
With Sorrow that I've always known-
we won the battle, lost the
war-
My closest friends draw breath no more.
This place
is where we laughed and sang-
Defiant when the church bells rang-
This run-down place is barely stable-
And here I sit at our old
table.
Next to the window in the back-
Of this old decaying
shack-
Here we talked about tomorrow-
And now all left of us
is Sorrow.
We fought to win our right to Dawn-
Now all
my friends are dead and gone-
Inside, outside, all the same-
The Light we fought for never came.
The Gods just wouldn't
let me die-
And join my friends up in the sky-
I'm forced
to live, but broken-hearted-
My friends are dead, they have departed.

I sympathize, such a heartbreaking write, that was very good, and such things are so hard to talk about, let alone write, thanks for sharing such an emotional piece.

That's a really heavy tribute to read. Very sorry for your losses. The poem had great rhyme and flow and overall was written very well. Crushing.
