The United States Marines
By Malcholm Dark
I
was born and bred a fighting man
Nurtured and trained by
Uncle Sam.
Given a gun, I'm prepared for war
Freedom for
all is what I fight for.
On the sands of Iwo
Jima, to Vietnam and back
The island of Grenada and a desert
called Iraq.
We are sent where we are needed, it matters
not you see
And death may be the price we pay so others can
be free.
--We turn battlefields into graveyards,
enemies into dreams
we are the finest equipped and most powerful
ever, war machines!
--We never give in to tyranny, nor any
fascist schemes
when it hits the fan,
they always call on us...
the United States Marines!
As a Marine I'll never
be wealthy, this we all can see
But my country, flag and
liberty mean so much more to me.
With my family always with
me, I shall never feel poor
'Cause my family is one with
me, the U.S. Marine Corps.
Then comes that day,
destiny and I go down side by side
I fall within the throws
of battle with my men of pride.
Please lay old glory over
me, fire a twenty-one gun salute
And bury me with my metals
then give that old bugle a toot.
As I get to heaven's gate,
I see the whole damn team
All of them that gone before and died
a proud Marine.
--I left the battlefields as graveyards,
my enemy a dream
I was advantageously equipped, a very powerful
war machine!
--I gave no quarter to any madman with a terrorist
scheme
any time shit hit the fan, they always called on me...
the first to go,
the last to
leave,
a United States Marine!
This poem is dedicated
to the men and women who,
served and died,
lived and
cried,
never asked why,
"I belong to the United States
Marine Corps."

I'm fortunate to return to this piece, with a cousin, home, safe and sound, the battlefields only leaving a thin veneer of dust on his soles. This was, and still is a fine tribute.

Because an American Marine would never commit a crime. It's all glory, isn't it...? This felt rather like reading nationalist propaganda right before a war, when the government needs more recruits. I respect that it was written in honour of fallen comrades, at least. They deserve some notice, and this was indeed a very heartfelt tribute for them. The rhythm and structure was perfect and flowed very well.

An amazing write Dark, definitely something my cousin would appreciate, cause he is leaving soon for Iraq again. This reminds all just how hard they're fighting over there, and it shouldn't go unnoticed. You can do no wrong my friend, well done.

I have nothing but the highest respect for all our brave men and women who go and pledge their lives for this Freedom we enjoy as Americans, and if I could join your ranks I know I would be honored to do it in a heartbeat. This was an amazing tribute. Semper Fi, and may the Gods bless America. Enough said.
