Southbound Lanes and Guitar Strings

By Sin

As of late Ive been trailing behind your guitar strings darling
Plucking your left over notes out of the air like smiles
And as of late Ive been traveling every southbound road I see
Hoping that it leads its way back to you

But my veins make a terrible map
Of criss crossing emotions to my heart
Where youve wrapped your misty mountain voice around tight
and I cant seem to shake those sweet silken chords
(Not that I would want to even if I could)

But all the hazy stares you send in my direction
Are lost on blue skies instead of my eyes
And its a hard place to be stuck between heartache and envy

If I was that guitar that you strum so skillfully
With fingers hovering and teasing harmony and vibrations
I would sing you a melody that matched your soul
And melted into the magnolia breezes

We would make beautiful music together
With your rough fingertips and my hollow bones

But as of late ive been trailing behind your guitar strings darling
Chasing those little left over notes and hiding them in my pocket
Waiting for southbound smiles to cover the miles
And take me home to you

Baby, I want to come home to you

Beautiful piece! I love the lines, "If I was that guitar that you strum so skillfully With fingers hovering and teasing harmony and vibrations I would sing you a melody that matched your soul...". Ciao, T/S Scholar

I don't know how I missed this. Absolutely priceless. Great flow, great words, and of course your great ability to express great emotion. Never understated and never melodramatic. You are, I must believe, perfect. Lovely. --Jes

I still have this tacked up on my wall. I read it at least once a day, it reminds me that I'm loved by someone more beautiful then even these words. And, I love you too.
