Seasons Of Guilt
By cre
It rained all day
Teardrops
splashing in through the glass
insistent, in a hurry
splattering
as many dewy little dots
as possible, across my floor
before
I begrudgingly "tsk'd" away the mess
with the pail meant for leaks
makeshift ham sandwich
toasted, on hamburger buns
"we're out of bread" you said
no matter, as i crunched
leaving crumbs on your floor
"your" floor.
little things
like the lake is rising again
straining for that place
it must reach before we will all say
"yes, the lake is high"
and cluck our tongues like it's a surprise
even though
it's rainy season
and there are baby ducks
they don't mind my second rate
hamburger buns
I guess it points to spring
and birth and life
and all that jazz
but somehow what comes to mind
is how birthdays
make it especially hard
to keep a reign of silence
so it's guilt
like a leak, and bad ham sandwiches
and hungry baby ducks
when all I'm thinking
is that your birthday
comes
on Sunday.
*note: yeah, so this isn't my style at all, it was just in my thoughts
today*

no, this is quite a departure from your normal style, but i like it a whole lot... it speaks to me of the depression that comes before the first really warm day, figuratively and literally.
