Baited

By flying_fox

You send me back to my loneliness
through the winds and the rains and the fires
no friends nor lovers are trusted
just myself, with my tired heart's desires

As I wither I fall an endless descent
I watch for the hands of the holy
But catch me they won't, for they're never there
Just the dark to caress and to hold me

So I nourish myself the way I know how
and punish myself with the guilt
I'm not who you think, nor are you, I believe
only flesh, I've no soul and no will

So tear at me, feast on me, come get your last
I'm sure there's enough to go 'round
If I seem to get empty I'll replenish it fast
and you'll see what a treasure you've found

But my warning is there that it's poison you eat
for it's ripped from my bones filled with rust
the distaste in your mouth from my blood will persist
and your Elysium will rise from my dust.

Beautiful. I usually have some constructive criticism for most things I read but this, to me, is damn near perfect. There's a contrast in here I can't quite put my finger on, and I like interpretive challenges. Excellent.
