On Philosophy

On Philosophy
Long have I pondered in secrecy thus-
The Mysteries within the Spirit-
And all I have learned, I now shall discuss-
Do well would you all not to fear it.
Of all of the volumes and verses and pages-
And all of the books I have scoured-
Millions of sayings brought forth by the sages-
And my inner wisdom empowered.
Though all that I’ve read, I fear it is waste-
And all thrown away to the Wind-
And so going forth, we all must make haste-
For here sitting idle, we’ve sinned.
We wasted our lives in solitude reading-
While others far smatter than we-
They all have suffered and as they lie bleeding-
They know the meaning of true Victory.
We who here sit I now see we are weak-
As we all waste away with our time-
The hope for the future we wanted is bleak-
And evermore fading sublime.
Perhaps it is always not knowing at all-
And that be the meaning of Life-
Or maybe in fact and in deed as we call-
Reliving the struggle and strife.
So with all said and done, I can say naught but this-
Herein the wise men have nothing to give-
At the end of the day, it’s just hard to miss-
That the point of this life is to live.
Author's Note:
Revised, with the last stanza re-written entirely in order to say what I mean. Either ge busy living, or get busy dying.Comments on "On Philosophy"

Yes! This fully captures what I so often feel when I delve into philosophy. I recall the teachings of Lao Tau most often for the insight to let go and embrace simplicity.

The flow of this work is empecible and the meaning behind it is something I've pondered over for years my friend. I love the poem that won but this gives that a run for its money.

the end recollects Goethe to me... but then, Heidegger echoes him with 'we are what we do' where doing requires living.... but I think perhaps maybe it's the way one lives that can make all the difference... kinda like Frost's poem.... at one point, I think the distinction between poets and philosophers was less defined...... really, but that may be a fable ;) I do like the simple optimism of that line..... and I would even add that anything worth doing, is worth doing right ;)

Very Philosophical, I have read many things myself and have felt a lot of the same feeling you so perfectly describe, I don't even know what do say. Thank you for the great write, keep in up! ~Orion

for the love of wisdom I think I heard a lil Socrates in there.... i know only that i do not know.... and is it not all just what we make of it (fritz)... and the clock is counting. Doomed to repeat history.... that is, the struggle and strife, indefinitely.....(marx). There's life after death? Fun read, sounds almost like a limerick ..... and it is nearing Patty's .... CHEERS, laddy!

Very nice write, it paints a picture of pointless breathing, I really liked this message of not wondering what's beyond the light, for it's a wasteful endeavor. Thanks for sharing.
