Free Will
By HeadpatSlut
Free Will
Live not by others words of rule-
Nor dare to be a drone-
Live how you choose, be not a fool-
In
good company, or alone.
Be not decieved by friendly faces-
Who hide the true intentions-
Be not impressed by wealthy graces-
When weighed by misdirections.
Heed not the laws of social
stages-
But be as one with all-
And disregard the wisest sages-
If they would make you fall.
And let not one tradition hold-
Control above your thought-
Do nothing just because you're told-
Remember why you fought.
And keep in mind the rights you own-
And freedoms that are yours-
So that this freedom may be known-
And cherished through the wars.
Look not only to the Gods
for help-
For the Gods just might mislead-
And lest you be a
beaten whelp-
Hold independant deed.
And listen not to
what I've said
Just because I say it-
But go and think inside
your head-
And never just obey it.
All in all, I say to
thee-
In thought be never ill-
Nor will you be if this you see-
So use your own Free Will.

Wish everyone did this. Can I make this the tenets of something? I imagine an army reciting this preparing for war, and then, after getting over with it, finally deciding not to go. It was a great image. Thank you.

a very intruiging concept; that of human agency and motivation. i cherished this immensely. its almost rivaling the theory of causality indirectly. purely existentialist to be sure. thank you for providing depth to the topic. write on, sir

human agency is free will. existentialism is the theory that actions have moral consequences and results

Well spoken, Brother. I do not love law, I love Justice. I do not love tradition, but AI love logic. I do not loveconvention, but I love a moral code, chosen from within. Well spoken indeed.

Nice. "You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice / If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice / You can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill / I will choose a path that's clear. I will choose free will!" ~N. Peart. Just thought I'd toss in that lyric from a song your poem reminded me of. I really like your rhyme structure; and of course, the fight of cognitive volition. "And listen not to what I've said" ~Well done.

Yeah, that's actually the song that inspired the poem, and I got a chance to see Rush a few years ago, they kicked ass. \m/
