shutter.steps

and the skies were draped in broken embers.
she held my hand like a halo
on the broken strings of reason.
on the sand- she'd always say it was morose
the diamonds on the water danced
like taps. like taps.

while the songs play on. somber voices
trace outlines like magenta and rouge.
she tells me it's better in sunbursts. I'm starting to think
she's a little less than stellar.

so the water breaks. and she holds my hand
like a halo. placed two feet from the ground
and says.
they're just the same stars. as the night before
I look down at my feet in the crystals.

maybe
we're more different than I thought.
