making[friends with six-]out

By doll on the rag

hush

secrets collect like neglected bourbon
in the rims of your eyes

the corners of your heartweary smile

and you
t.o.n.g.u.e them out so
_____s__l__o__w__l__y
disguise them with nonchalant poem garlands
hope no one catches you

slick streets and two a.m.
partner so charmingly
with a lusty beckandcall
we could heed
were we less than apathy-minded
and more sincere

i too have wished for a car crash
and meant it
but not really so much as i'd like to believe

the sky burns unfortunate
in pinprick stars
cosmosglitter
twinkling so deceptively
like pyritecomfort corkscrews
and shotglasses
such a poor substitute for warm arms
and gentle hands

keep me company
in this isolationesque silence
where it is so easy
to stumble
and forget myself

oh, that we could drift
without chemical neuroses
upon waking

for all our hopeless meandering missteps
i like you

strange to think
perhaps
these voices belong in other mouths
unfamiliar to our own
while the stoplights grant me
such a peculiar
interface

it is your perrogative

and if i were to write you a letter
i would begin it
"dear jon,"
