Urban Renaissance Vol 1
By Chameleon
I
Under firelight of deep suburbia
thunder rolls across the ghetto-
street kids on sandy pavement
pitch the radio on high.
We move to the beach,
the smell of the city
forces us to face the tide
strong arming it with our longing...
"It all made sense at one time,"
said Jack, pissing in the bonfire;
"I fucking love this song"
I do too-I thought,
peeling the label from another corona.
"Nobody understands this," I said.
What-?!? Jack yelled-What don't THEY understand?"
-This-
here, now, this moment-
pissing under the stars
yelling at the moon,
its as hollow as a photograph
in the foggy morning.
We're as free as a bottle in the sand, man-
sitting, wasting away,
waiting; praying for a strong tide
to carry us away-somewhere...
But this- standing raw in front of the flame
I almost feel alive-
I could run, kill, f@ck, dance-cry
and it would mean something-
Anything; but only in this moment
'til tomorrow rains it away,
another memory on a postcard-
another frown of a stranger-
another broken bottle under a streetlight...
This is suburbia, My friend-
Nobody understands it-
Nobody cares about freedom anymore.

Fuck yes. I know I have read this before some years ago and massively enjoyed it and still enjoyed it as much this time around. The simple moments where anything is relevant and becomes the most beautiful thing in the world, but only in that moment. Last few lines tied it together wonderfully. Excellent.

Genius... I love the theme and complimenting images. Quite the message behind this little tale.

Wonderful.. a sense of damaged longing..and pieces of yesterday that never quite look the same after you've thought about it .

wow, this is the concept of a brilliant film or something - it is just supremely well presented, "This is suburbia, My friend- Nobody understands it-" dammit - these lines just churned me up, it's like I'm there at the scene, just waiting around everynigh
